Critical Illness Cover

There is a need to protect against problems resulting from critical illnesses, these are illnesses that are life threatening and from which permanent full recovery may not be possible. Examples include heart attacks, strokes and cancer.

A critical Illness can strike at anytime – here are some statistics:
  • Around 8,000 women under 50 are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK, Approximately 2,000 of these are in their 20’s and 30’s
    Source:
    www.breastcancer.org.uk, 2006

  • In the UK it is estimated that of the 10,000 people diagnosed each year with Parkinson’s disease, 1 in 20 are under 40 years of age

  • The most common cause of cancer for men aged between 20-39 is testicular cancer

  • Multiple sclerosis is the most common potentially disabling disease of the central nervous system affecting young adults in the western world, Diagnosis is usually between the ages of 20 and 40

These statistics show that there is a very real risk of contracting a critical illness, but is also that many of those who do, will survive for a number of years. Some may recover completely and return to full-time work, but many will not. The latter may not only need protection from loss of earnings, but their hysical condition may well produce additional expenses of a capital nature (e.g. the need to adapt a home to the needs of a permanent invalid).
